Little Hands, Beautiful Garden (Matsoho a Manyane, Serapa se Setle) was written in response to the food security crisis in Lesotho. Many children in many families go hungry, and the rising prices of food are prohibitive. In this story, Nolu decides to help her grandmother and creates her own food garden. It is successful beyond her wildest dreams, and soon she is feeding more than her own family; she is feeding the many people who come to buy the delicious beetroot achaar, and onion and spinach makoenya that her grandmother makes with her vegetables. Even the king and queen want some! The book has a planting calendar in it, as well as information about how to save seeds, and we hope that it will inspire little hands to take home-based food growing seriously.
